Shooka Afshar

Harvard Music Award-winning soprano, vocal coach, and City of Boston Certified Artist,
Shooka Afshar, brings her distinguished background as a classical/opera singer, composer, and music entrepreneur to her role as a music instructor at Kindernest Montessori. Born in Tehran, Iran, Shooka completed her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Classical Vocal Performance at the Longy School of Music in Boston, where she also earned a Teaching Artist Certificate.
With extensive training in vocal therapy at Boston Medical Center and a deep understanding of voice mechanics, Shooka uses her unique skill set to guide and heal through music. Her innovative approach combines artistic expertise with a comprehensive understanding of the vocal and musical development of young children.
Shooka believes that learning music should be fun, joyous, and disciplined. She emphasizes the importance of early musical education, recognizing its positive impact on brain development. In her weekly group music and piano lessons for Kindernest students, Shooka incorporates Dalcroze body movements and rhythmic games, helping children internalize music and feel rhythm in their bodies. She also places a strong emphasis on proper technique and hand posture, ensuring a solid foundation for future musical growth.
Shooka’s passion for performance and her commitment to nurturing young talent foster a dynamic and engaging learning environment for her students. Her teaching philosophy encourages creativity, discipline, and a lifelong love of music, making each class a joyful experience.
